About Me

Bob has worn several hats over the course of his career — as a U.S. Navy sailor, business writer, technical translator (Japanese), and EFL/ESL teacher. His next goal is to become certified as an online instructor after completing the UW Stout E-Learning and Online Teaching Graduate Certificate Program. He teaches at the University of Delaware English Language Institute and runs the ELI Teacher website.

Bob graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Later, he earned his Master of Arts in Education (TESOL emphasis) from Alliant International University in San Diego. During that period, he also completed a certificate program in Educational Technologies from UC San Diego.

As a high school teacher of English as a Foreign Language, Bob designed and implemented the computer-assisted language learning (CALL) program at Sendai Shirayuri Gakuen High School in Sendai, Japan. He also mentored students in English contests, fielding three gold medalists and one silver in prefectural speech competitions and one national essay winner.

As a college lecturer in Sapporo, Bob taught ESP (Business English) and English composition in a CALL environment while serving as officer for the Japan Association for Language Teaching, Hokkaido Chapter. He is an enthusiastic workshop speaker and has presented on a number of  topics related to teaching with technology.

When not working, Bob enjoys jogging and cycling in the warmer months and skiing in winter. Also, he would probably die without music — upbeat tunes to start the day and smooth jazz to wind it down. He plays a little guitar now and then, too.
